The Woman in Me — A Complete Review
Dear Reader,
Last week I read Britney Spears’ memoir and I can’t stop thinking about. I get the impression that a lot of people won’t read the book because they figure everything they need to know was in the headlines, but there is so much more to her story than he who shall not be named. I’m decided to dedicate a blog to a full honest review of the book and some random thoughts. Let’s go!
The Woman in Me Review
I think I should start out this review by saying I am a HUGE Britney Spears fan. Always have been, always will be. So this review may be a bit biased.
The book follows Britney from an early age to the present day. But, it is only about 250 pages so it’s definitely an abridged version of her story. It is a quick, addictive read. Her writing style is extremely readable and sometimes feels random, but not in a bad way. It is almost stream of consciousness sometimes, weaving though topics. Like at one point she seemingly brings up migraines out of no where. I honestly didn’t mind it. It almost feels like a catch-up coffee date with a friend. I also don’t know if people realize this, but Britney is hilarious. Her little side comments made me guffaw. At one point she says abut her ex Kevin, “he really thought he was a rapper now, bless his heart.” I meeeean …
Hands down my favorite part of the book was her acknowledgement of her Instagram account. I have been following her account since it started and it’s always been a little … choatic. It made me wonder if she was alright. But in her book she explains that she knows people think it’s weird and she doesn’t care. She writes that when you’ve been controlled your whole life, it’s nice to just have fun, be creative and let loose. And I think we all deserve that opportunity. I also loved that in her thank you at the end she she makes a joke about how people who follow her Instagram probably thought the book would be written in emojis. You don’t know how relieved I was to hear how self-aware she is.
While I loved the book, it wasn’t a 5-star read for me, because I really wish there was more to it. It was just snippets of her life, and I am still hungry for more. She doesn’t owe us anything but if she did want to write another book, I would definitely read it. I think even the most mundane details of her life would be interesting, so no book would probably ever be long enough.
Most of the story to extremely sad and heartbreaking, but it still manages to be lighthearted and hopefully in parts. Despite what she has gone though, she seems to be healing and looking towards the future. I hope that is true. If you love Britney, or are mildly interested in her story, this book is worth reading.
I may be reading too much into it, but the ending did seem to maybe, sort of hint at her coming back to perform in Vegas, or maybe it’s just wishful thinking. But I hope I get to see her perform one day.
That’s it for this week.
Bye,
Felicia
